Canada Immigration Language Test Converter
Immigration, Refugees, Citizenship Canada (IRCC) Canada immigration Authority laid a provision of proving language skills for all candidates applying for Permanent Residence to Canada.
Permanent Residence
Two English and two French language tests are there. These tests are offered by third parties that are recognized by Canadian authorities:
- English: CELPIP General English test and IELTS General Training
- French: TEF Canada and TCF Canada
It is to be noted that other versions of above mentioned tests are not acceptable for Express Entry. The score required depends on the different programs under which a candidate is applying.
To measure the language level, the immigration authorities use the Canadian language Benchmarks (CLB) for English and Niveaux de competence linguistique canadiens (NCLC) for French.
The language abilities tested are:
- Speaking/ expression orale
- Listening/ comprehension de l’oral
- Reading/ comprehension de l’ecrit
- Writing/expression ecrite
Below a chart is given which convert score received under third party language examinations into the corresponding language level.
Federal Skilled Worker Program
A minimum level of ClB or NCLC 7 must be obtained by a candidate for first official language in all four language abilities, and to receive points for your second official language you must acquire a minimum level of CLB or NCLC 5 in all four modules (language abilities).
CELPIP-GENERAL
The Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP) is an English language test that measures a candidates English proficiency.
CELPIP has two versions the CELPIP- General test (assesses all four abilities) and the CELPIP-General LS test (assesses only the listening and speaking proficiency). Only CELPIP- General test is acceptable for immigration purpose.

Canadian Experience Class
The skills you need for this program will depend on the job classification under Canada’s National Occupational Classification (NOC):
- For NOC 0 or A, you will need at least CLB / NCLC 7 or high
- For NOC B, you will need at least CLB / NCLC 5 or 6
